Position: The President is a one-year volunteer position on the Board
of Directors elected at the annual meeting by the current Board of Directors.
Requirements of a Director apply to each elected position. The President
operates under the direction and control of the Board members and reports to the
Board and the Wisconsin Affiliate Support Manager. All officers must provide
information to the Directors as requested.
Duties:
- Oversee the Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and the Executive
Director, offer support where needed and bring issues to the officers for
resolution.
- Execute for the corporation any contracts, deeds, mortgages, bonds or
other instruments which the Board has authorized to be executed except in
those instances in which the authority to execute is expressly delegated to
another officer or agent
- Approve all members of each committee, and remove any member when such
action is in the best interest of the corporation.
- Appoint a committee chairperson to each committee.
- Facilitate the monthly Board meeting and monthly officer meeting.
- Communicate information from Habitat International to the affiliate and
act as a liaison.
- Develop the annual budget in conjunction with each committee chair,
other officers and the Executive Director.
- Work with officers to investigate issues and to prepare, propose and
implement strategies regarding affiliate operations.
- Present information on HFHI and HFHO to churches, businesses and
individuals requesting speakers.
- Deposit funds, transfer funds and sign checks as necessary.
- Perform any duties as from time-to-time may be assigned by the Board.
Attendance: The President is expected to attend and participate in
the following:
- Monthly board meetings are currently held on the 2nd Tuesday of each
month at 6:30 p.m. at the Habitat office. The President must notify the
Habitat office by the end of office hours the Monday prior to the meeting if
unable to attend.
- Monthly officer's meetings are held at a time agreed upon by all
officers. The President must notify the Habitat office by the end of the
office hours the day prior to the meeting if unable to attend, and is
responsible for supplying necessary information to the Habitat office prior
to the meeting.
- The annual strategic planning session is typically held on a Saturday in
January or February.
- The annual meeting is typically held on the third Sunday in September or
October.
The President is strongly encouraged to attend and participate in the
following:
- One "Director Build" at the worksite on a Saturday designated by the
Board. This is necessary to familiarize each Director with a build site for
better oversight of the organization's operations, to serve as publicity for
the organization and to act as a team-building event.
- Special occasions in representation of Habitat such as groundbreaking
ceremonies, house blessings and volunteer appreciation events.
- Regional and state-wide training.
Time:
- Monthly board meetings are 2-3 hours, depending on the agenda. The
anticipated time to perform monthly President duties is 15 hour per month.
- The officer's meeting is typically one hour.
- Preparation of the annual budget will be performed during the officer's
meetings as appropriate.
- A strategic planning session is 6-8 hours in length.
- The annual meeting is 1-2 hours, depending on the agenda.
- Saturday build days are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch provided.
