Habitat for Humanity of Oshkosh offers a variety of ways
to become involved in the effort to make homeownership a reality for
low-income families. While we can not build a home without construction
volunteers, we also depend upon donations that provide the financial
means to purchase land and materials. You can also serve on the
Board of Directors or on issue
committees, help with occasional office work, provide a meal at a
construction site, or involve your church or place of employment in a
fund-raising effort or on a build.
To learn more about volunteering with Habitat for
Humanity of Oshkosh, read to see how our opportunities best fit
your interests and skills. Then please take a few moments to complete
our volunteer waiver form for adults and minors, and to fill out our
Volunteer Interest or Construction form.

Construction Opportunities
Fill out the
volunteer interest form and return it to the Habitat office. You
will then be contacted as opportunities arise. We need volunteers of all
abilities. You don't need to know how to build a house in order to help
build. We will teach you the task you will be performing. There are many
different steps to building a house. See the list below for the building
process and the type of volunteers.
Construction Volunteer:
Construction volunteers perform a specific task under the supervision of
crew leaders. A construction volunteer performs general construction
work including drywall, excavation, painting, framing, landscaping, etc.
Habitat will provide tools for the job, but please bring a nail apron if
you have one. Remember to label any personal items.
Site Supervisor:
Helps the Project Manager lead construction crews and oversee projects
at the construction site.
Crew Leader:
Crew leaders oversee a group of four to six crew members in completing a
specific construction task. These leaders do not need to know how to
build a house from foundation to completion, but they must be familiar
with construction terms, be comfortable using various tools and be able
to understand and follow directions of the site supervisor. Crew leaders
provide training and leadership to volunteers.
Site Host: Arrives
to the site ahead of the volunteers, sets up water and snacks for
volunteers, signs volunteers in and out, makes sure that the
construction site is clean and safe, brings water to the volunteers, and
helps the meal providers set up for lunch.

Meal Provider Opportunities
Habitat welcomes individuals and groups to prepare and
deliver meals to our hungry construction volunteers. The individual or
group may select the menu for the day, but call
the office to confirm the menu. Here is a list of volunteer
favorites:
-
Sandwiches, chips, desserts
-
Soups, such as chili or chicken noodle soup
-
Casseroles
-
Homemade biscuits or muffins
-
Assorted drinks, such as Gatorade, soda and juices
Meals are delivered to the site between 11:45 a.m. and
noon. Bring meals in disposable containers, so you do not need to worry
about reclaiming your dishes as well as for easy cleanup.
Office Work
Throughout the year, the office staff will have mailing
projects, inventory, fundraising preparation and other projects to
coordinate. Volunteers can work hand-in-hand with staff members
performing a variety of tasks. For more information, please
contact us.
Committee
Opportunities
- Church Relations: Members come from congregations that
support Habitat for Humanity through prayer, volunteers, monetary
donations, meal provision, Vacation Bible School, mission minutes.
Churches select a representative to serve on the committee or you
may choose to get your church involved.
- Building and Site Selection: Committee members evaluate
local properties to determine if they're suitable and cost-effective
for Habitat homes. They also help to select the layout for Habitat

manage all materials and supplies used on the build.
- Family Selection: Members participate in family
orientation sessions, interviewing prospective Habitat families, and
in the selection of qualifying Habitat families.
- Family Support: Committee members assist partner families
to make the adjustment to becoming a first-time homeowner.
- Fundraising Committee: Members help to develop a
consistent and reliable donor base that will allow Habitat to build
homes and maintain affiliate operations.

newsletter, make presentations, foster relationships with our
external partners, and promote Habitat at community events to

Church
Opportunities
Habitat for Humanity was
established to demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus Christ.
It is natural that the church - Christ's body in the world - should
be a primary partner in Habitat's work (Habitat for Humanity
International: Affiliate Guide to Church Relations, 2004). How can
your church make a difference in Oshkosh? It's simple!
- Pray for Habitat's mission
- Include Habitat info in your newsletters/bulletins
- Organize a group from your church to build on the site
- Attend ground-breaking and house-blessing ceremonies
- Building-On-Faith Devotions
- Participate in an Apostle's Build with other Oshkosh churches
- Collect a special offering for Habitat or set up a tithe to
Habitat
- Use Habitat's VBS or Sunday school curriculum
- Provide meals to Habitat construction workers
- Make
Welcome Home Baskets for new
Habitat families
-
House Bank Devotional Calendar
-
House Banks
